Do you remember the well-known song He Touched Me written by Bill Gaither? I will quote the words to the chorus and explain how these words, when combined with the Word of God, will help you as you go on a journey of healing your heart and soul.
He touched me, Oh He touched me,
And oh the joy that floods my soul!
Something happened and now I know,
He touched me and made me whole.
We all have had painful experiences in our lives, no matter who we are or where we are from, or what our upbringing was. Some of these are a direct result of sin in our lives, and others were brought upon us involuntarily.
Some of us have been chained by a heavy burden and our lives feel like we can’t go on. When we look at what Jesus had to say about burdens, it will make us feel better. “…Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NLT).
If you are carrying a burden, you can give it to Jesus and He will give you rest. The rest that Jesus offers is the type of rest that will enable you to get a good night’s sleep. The rest that Jesus gives will enable you to move forward, despite what has happened to you in the past. The rest that Jesus offers will enable you to walk this journey of life and avoid the traps that Satan tries to use to snare you.
When you accept Jesus into your heart, He will make you whole. If you’ve done this already, but have walked away from God’s grace, Jesus is still waiting to touch you.
The bottom line is that Jesus wants to touch you and make you whole. We see this clearer when we look at Isaiah. “But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Jesus died on the cross so that we could be made whole. If you are broken and your life is torn apart, you can be made whole. Come to Jesus and be made whole.
When you accept the offer that Jesus made for all the nations and peoples of the earth, you will not only be made whole, but you will rejoice. Have you ever truly rejoiced with the joy of the Lord? There is no joy that compares to it. When you praise God there is also no praise that compares to it. Many times we rejoice over things like money and personal success, but when we truly praise God, it comes out of an attitude of joy, in response to what Jesus has done for us.
Here is what the Psalmist says, “I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies” (Psalm 18:3). God, through the person of Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, wants to save you from your enemies, and sometimes our enemy comes in the form of burdens. Yet, when we are delivered from our burdens and our sins, we will praise God and we won’t have to think twice about doing it.
“He touched me, Oh He touched me, And oh the joy that floods my soul! Something happened and now I know He touched me and made me whole.” Can you sing the chorus to this song and really take personal ownership of the words? Can you read the words of Scripture that have been given and truly take personal ownership of them?
Do you want your heart and soul to be healed? Are you just playing games with God? Are you afraid of God? Have you been hurt by someone in the church? Have you been hurt by a pastor? Have you been hurt by a congregation? Have you been hurt by the child welfare system? Have you been hurt by the legal system? Have you been hurt by your spouse? Have you been hurt by one of your children or grandchildren? Many of you may give a resounding “YES!” to any one of these questions. Take these to Jesus and allow Him to touch you and make you whole.
Because of Jesus I can finally and joyfully say, “He touched me and made me whole.” y
