Shamin Brown was a straight A high school student and excelled in athletics. By the following year, she was an addict who was broken in body and spirit.
This book is the Shamin's story of the first five years of her recovery. She does this in a journal format with entries written over this five-year period.
I found it sometimes painfully hard and heartbreaking to read but it made me understand what addicts go through and how they try to recover their lives.
Gilles M., a youth counselor with Manitoba Justice, writes in his endorsement, that "Shamin is undaunted by the difficult, but necessary conversations to fight addictions and their root causes...[she] provides practical, believable and do-able steps to get anyone started on the journey of recovery. She is the real deal!"
I agree.
The bonus of this book is the questions after each chapter designed to assist the reader on their own healing journey.
