ADA, Okla.-Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby has promoted Jerod Waters to Executive Officer of Nursing at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center. Waters formerly served as Director of Nursing at CNMC.
"Jerod Waters brings experience and organizational skills to this new position," said Gov. Anoatubby. "His education and involvement in the healthcare field have helped prepare him for this new role."
Waters said the move was made because the medical center's growth required supervisory duties be divided.
"The position had grown to such a size and responsibility that it needed to be divided. With support of administration, we were able to appoint a director of nursing for inpatient and a director of nursing for outpatient. These changes allow people to focus more closely on their respective areas," Waters said. "There will also be an increase in accountability. The directors will be able to focus deeper on projects and programs as opposed to having an overview of many areas."
He said his role involves giving people the support and the tools they need to be the best they can be.
"There are some very dynamic people who work within the Department of Health every day. Being able to support them and keep the behind-the-scenes operation going is something I dearly love," Waters explained.
For Waters, seeing programs and projects with the CNMC come to life is the most satisfying part of his new job.
"We have had the opportunity to develop new programs and opportunities for outreach and advancement. Watching someone come into the system and go through the process as we designed it-and succeed-is very rewarding," Waters said. Two examples were the Chickasaw Nation's School to Work program and the Nurse Residency Externship.
Waters and his wife have been married 15 years and have two daughters, age 10 and 5. His wife is a registered nurse just lide him. "In May 2016, my wife will be a nurse practitioner," he said proudly.
In his off time, Water enjoys outdoor recreation, particularly hunting and fishing. Waters and his wife also are active participants in supporting the sporting activities of their children.
