The other day I heard an interesting story on the radio.
A father and his son were sailing a homemade boat that they had worked diligently on together. The boat managed to drift away from them in the quiet waves and was distancing itself more and more until it became unreachable.
The young boy was greatly concerned and asked his daddy what they could do to save the boat. The father began to pick up stones and throw them in the direction of their fragile treasure. As the stones hit the water, the ripples brought the boat back toward its glad owners.
Do you ever feel this way? Do you feel like you are far away from where you are supposed to be? Do you think your life is too far gone and that nobody can reach you?
Maybe you can’t understand why God is allowing these painful rocks of hard times and difficulty to touch you? Did you ever think that God knows that this is the only way He could get your attention and bring you to Himself? Sometimes jolts in life cause us to wake up and consider important things we would never think about before, when life was smooth sailing.
Obviously, the father and his boy didn’t want to lose their fragile treasure that they enjoyed creating together. You are the fragile treasure that God created on purpose! He formed you in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5). You are the treasure that has gone its own way. We all have drifted away from God’s Word (Isaiah 53:6). We have a sinful nature inside of us that automatically rebels against God (Romans 5:12). Without God intervening and seeking to draw us to Himself, we would stay lost, enjoying sin for a short moment but then suffering its terrible consequences for a lifetime. Those jolts can be pretty painful!
Thankfully, the Father sent the Son to be your Savior! The Lord Jesus can reach you, because He loves you! The Lord Jesus demonstrated His great love by taking your judgment so that you could be forgiven and set free to live your life for God (Galatians 2:20).
He wants to save us from the disastrous control of sin in our lives. He also wants to save us from the judgment we deserve. If we die without trusting the Savior, we would have to suffer sin’s terrible payment; not only in this lifetime, but for all of eternity (Romans 6:23). God is seeking to draw you to Himself (John 5:24).
The pebbles and the rocks that you are experiencing are proof of His great mercy. Please don’t keep drifting away from Him. Change your mind and move toward Him in faith:
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land (Second Chronicles 7:14).
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Acts16:31).
