In March, I took a little drive to have a refreshing break. On a ten-hour trip, my truck began to act up. I kept losing power! It was quite concerning, and left me feeling helpless because I had no idea what was wrong!
The only thing I knew to do was to pull over, stop the truck and wait a bit. Then I started it again and continued my trip. Thankfully, I reached my destination safely and was able to take the truck to a mechanic for help.
As I reflect on the whole situation, I can relate it to my own spiritual life, and maybe you can too. We have three enemies: the world, our own sinful flesh and Satan himself. These three want to hinder us from having God's power and victory in our lives. The Holy Spirit is the One who gives us new life and break the chains of sin (Ezekiel 36:26). He is also the One who produces the fruit of the Spirit in the believer's life (Galatians 5:22–23).
Without God's power in our lives, we have a very similar situation as I faced with my truck. Wrong desires and actions, which are called, "sin," control us. We are broken people in need of a mechanic! My truck was being controlled by severe voltage issues and without salvation from the mechanic, it would remain broken and headed for destruction at a vehicle graveyard.
Without a Savior, we are headed for a lost eternity (John 3:36). We need someone who can save us and give us power to tune our lives up, so that the three enemies won't have their way in us. God loves you and wants you to live to your full potential, walking with your Creator and Savior all the way to Heaven (John 14:6)!
Mechanics have the ability to restore my truck, and fix what is broken. Jesus Christ has the ability to restore you to God so you can have His power in your life as you look to His Word. We are the broken ones, and He is the Savior! Do you believe it? Christ Jesus came into the world to save the broken ones, sinners (1 Timothy 1:15)!
God's Word to the believer is what gasoline and a good mechanic are to a vehicle. We cannot please God in our own strength, just as I am helpless to maintain and fix my truck on my own. I need gasoline and a source greater than myself (the mechanic), to have a smoothly running vehicle (Psalm 119:105).
Have you received the power of God in your life? Without a Savior we are dead and without strength because our sins have separated us from God. The Bible says, "But to as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become [children] of God" (John 1:12).
If you do know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, are you tuning into God's Word daily and letting Him lead you by the power of His Spirit? The Bible says if we are walking in the Spirit, we won't fulfill the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). If you are having power issues (problems) in your life right now, the best thing you can do is pull over. Stop and take the time to look to what God says and call on Him! Don't give up, because then you are letting the enemy have his way!
Jesus Christ is the greatest mechanic, and His Holy Spirit will give you the gasoline (power) to live a new life, pleasing unto your God! You need to take the first step towards Him, just like I needed to get to a mechanic. Jesus puts us on the highway to Heaven. God's Holy Spirit will give you the power that you need to live for God as you say, "Lord, not my will be done but Yours. Help me!"
Remember, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13).
