This past week, my parents and I travelled the Needles Highway. For those of you who are not familiar with this highway, it is a 14-mile scenic byway that lies within Custer State Park, among the Black Hills of South Dakota. It offers sharp turns, narrow tunnels and winding routes.
My mom, who is fearful of heights, especially when mixed in with twists and turns, managed to get to the eye of the needle at the top of the eroded mountain-without fainting. I prayerfully encouraged her that she could do it, and she did, with God's help! I don't think she would want to travel this beautiful but dangerous highway again, but we all marveled at how God was able to show us His goodness!
Do you ever think about how able God is to work in your life?
In Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV), Jeremiah cried out a truth we can remember: "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you."
In fact, "He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.' (Ephesians 3:20 and Luke 1:37)
Aren't these encouraging promises from the only wise and eternal God! If anyone else made these kinds of statements to me concerning their own ability, I would quietly laugh. It would be fairly obvious that what they were stating was very unlikely. Some people can do some pretty amazing things, but we have limits to our abilities. All that we are able to do, we can only do because God has made it possible for us to do it!
BUT GOD . . . well, God . . . He can do anything!
There is no limit to His power. He is able!
On the other hand, we aren't always able-even our days on earth are limited. We certainly need God!
Did you know that God is able to save your soul from the judgment of your sins? No one else can do that, including you. God sent the only person who could satisfy the debt that you owe, and that person had no sin of His own, unlike you and I who are guilty from head to toe of breaking God's laws.
God's Word tells us that the payment for sin is death, and that His Son Jesus is the only Savior who can bring us to God. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
God really loves you and He is the only one who is able to keep loving you throughout your whole life, even though you and I don't deserve this kind of love. For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son . . . while we were yet the sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
What will you do with God's love shown to you through Jesus? Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved! (Acts 16:31)
If you are saved, did you know that God is able to keep you throughout your life on earth until He chooses to take you home to heaven?
Because He is able, why do you and I worry? Those who know Jesus have eternal life-this means nothing can separate them from the love of God; nothing down here and nothing up there, nothing we do and nothing anyone else does can take the person who knows the Lord Jesus out of God's grip (Romans 8:38–39).
God's Word says that those who are children of God, through faith in Christ as their Savior, will never perish (John 10:28). Do you believe these words that God says? If you don't, you are saying that He isn't able, which, in effect, means you are calling God a liar! (1 John 5:10). May each of us trust God with all of our heart. He is faithful, even when we aren't (2 Timothy 3:13).
Lastly, do you know that God is able to deliver you?
First and foremost, nothing is more important than salvation. God is able to deliver you from the judgment of your sins! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life; seek Him out while you can! (John 14:6).
Secondly, if you are in any other kind of danger, or are in need of help, this is very important to God as well. You matter! God sent His only Son, not only to be your Savior but to also be your deliverer.
I do not mean to minimize the severity of your situation, whatever it is, outside of the salvation of your soul, but it is good to put things into perspective. All trouble is small when compared to where you will spend all of eternity and how big our God is.
Remember, God is able! God would desire for you and me to look to Him and trust Him today and say, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety" (Psalm 18:2).
May God bless you today!
