"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.- Ephesians 2:8-9
Mom told me a story once about T. Texas Tyler, an alcoholic country and western singer who became a believer back in 1958 (before my time).
As his music morphed to country gospel, TTT began closing his contractual obligations that were part of his former life as a country and western star. Hollywood and the Grand Ole Opry weren't that hard, but one promoter wouldn't let him out of an "ironclad" contract for a series of fairs and rodeos and threatened him with a lawsuit if he wouldn't sing at these beer gardens.
Tyler phoned him up. When he told him that Jesus had saved him, the man asked if he'd been drinking!
Then they talked about the contract. After some discussion, TTT told him to look at page 3, which described the conditions the contract was based on. There were 7 clauses-the first one was that he had to be ready and backstage 30 minutes before showtime. The second was that Tyler needed to perform SOBER!
There were five other conditions besides those two. Then in small print at the bottom was the disclaimer, "All of the above clauses in this contract are binding and applied directly to T. Texas Tyler, with the exception of an Act of God. He never heard from that promoter again. Tyler later wrote, "When he had his attorney write that 'Act of God' clause in that contract, he never dreamed, and neither did I when I signed it, that a real act of God would ever happen to me!"
TTT experienced an Act Of God and the changes it made in his life and music career. God wants to do a work in each of our lives! How does that work look like for you and me?
