Someday

It was a rolling chassis 1955 Chevrolet Apache 3100 truck that my friend Austin had gifted to me. I was so excited about what I could do with this shortbed stepside pickup, making plans for a mid-sixties 327 V-8 power plant and "4 on the floor" tranny to mobilize Kene's dreammobile!

I was beginning to hunt for the parts I needed, envisioning how the prismatic polyester metallic paint in the semi-gloss, charcoal finish would showcase this eventual beauty!

There was no time or room right then to work on it, so I left her at Austin's place for the time being. The plan was that I would come and get it when I was ready to get this restoration project off the ground, soon or someday . . .

The day came a few months later when Austin came to me with the sad news that his reserve had done a scrap vehicle crushing project, and my "Queen of 1955" had mistakenly been included in the roundup!

I could not believe it; she was gone and all the dreams and plans I had for her were shattered (crushed!) and gone along with her. It was a heartbreaking day!

Losing that truck taught me a lesson about putting things off. I came to really appreciate the fact that golden chances in life don't last forever and are oftentimes "windows of opportunity" that won't be there if we don't take them while they're available.

That's especially true of our connection with Jesus. It's an invitation that we sometimes have a tendency to put on the back burner until we find a more convenient time to deal with it. We rationalize "Maybe when I'm older, maybe when I'm done having fun, maybe after I live life my way, someday!".

And like John Fogerty titled his iconic 1972 song, Someday Never Comes.

When we're dealing with old trucks and the temporary elements of life, we can get away with a little bit of "back burnering" without getting "burned" too badly; when it comes to eternal things, the stakes are way higher!

God offers us the choice of new life through His Son, Jesus. What've we done about it?

God offers us the paramount opportunity to serve Him. What're we doing with that?

The things in our lives surrounding the connection with our Creator are way too important for you and me to put aside to deal with "someday"!
