Letters from Our Readers

Series: Letters from Our Readers | Story 7

About Intertribal Life:

We have a large population of Native Americans here at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF); your commitment to send Intertribal Life is appreciated. The women here at CCCF are grateful to receive copies. Your outreach is making a difference.

From my heart I am grateful too.

Chaplain D. C

I just wanted to send a huge thank you to you and your staff for maintaining this form of information and hope for our people here in the facility. The paper is widely sought by our people, and they find it encouraging, while also providing another form of important cultural support to them on their journeys. We are grateful and gladly welcome the copies you can provide our men."

About Council Fire devotional:

I like the personal stories of what God has done in the people's lives. I read every day and I look forward to starting it all over again in January.

Shortly after the shipment arrived of Council Fire, I inquired into whether the devotionals could be shared at one annual gathering. This gathering was identified as a likely starting point, as residential school survivors (RSS) and their family members from the northern communities would be in attendance. Some other people had read and heard about Volume I, and they were immediately interested in receiving a second volume for themselves and other people.

As an example, a friend and I handed out some devotionals at a gathering and I returned the next evening with another dozen devotionals for people who had requested a copy. Outreach also included the grieving, working mothers and young people who appreciated being remembered and gifted.

A couple of Indigenous church leaders and counselors who lead Bible studies were likewise interested in this valuable resource. Recipients were encouraged to share the Council Fire devotionals. Distribution was mostly hand-to-hand and person-to-person. You can be assured that copies of Council Fire are out there.

Please pray that our people will continue to read and be blessed by the devotionals written for them by our people. Thank you for the Council Fire. May the Lord bless the worker and receiver.

PS, I am holding onto one last copy because I know someone who is grieving will need it, sooner or later. There is much grief in this part of Northwest Ontario."

Just thought I'd send a picture of putting Council Fire to good use at Loon Lake, Sask. We went camping with a group from church this summer and gathered around the campfire to read the devotional from Council Fire. That is Emily Bell on the right.
