For the last four months, I have been blessed to live in a new, ready-to-move home. From the roof to the floors and the bottom of the crawl space, the house was freshly built and free of any kind of wear and tear.
In the third month of living in my new home, I managed to break the handle on my mop and had to resort to washing my floor on my hands and knees. As I proceeded to do so, I was mortified at what I saw from this lowly position. There were food particles on my freshly painted walls, black marks, and dirt on top of my baseboards! To walk into my home at any given time, a person would think it was organized and clean; at least that's what my usual standard is. As I wiped up the marks, the dirt, and cleaned up the sticky drippings, my mind started the think about a spiritual application from this situation.
We aren't as clean as we think we are, and nothing is hidden from God. He plainly sees our motives and actions every moment of our lives, whether we are alone or not.
Hebrews 4:13 says, "Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account." Apart from a relationship with Christ, God's Word also says, "We are blinded by the god of this world, who is Satan, who doesn't want us to see the light of the gospel and the glory of Christ who is the image of God" (2 Corinthians 4:4).
Sometimes we are so used to the same routine of daily living and thought patterns that we don't realize they dishonour God. God says in His Word, "All have sinned and fall short of His perfect standard" (Romans 3:23). This means we all have filthy, dirty marks of disobedience on our soul.
How does this happen? We choose to do what's right in our own eyes, instead of seeking God's way. Because of this, we have separated ourselves from God and are missing real, lasting peace in our lives. What we really need is a "soul cleanse." This involves getting down in our heart, which is similar to me getting down on my knees, to clean what I couldn't see. Humbling ourselves before God, means that we are willing to submit our way of thinking and living to God's Word, and agree with what He says.
God really does love you and wants you to enjoy a new clean life with Him, "Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins be red as scarlet, they shall be white as snow . . . " (Isaiah 1:18).
The Bible also says, the way of the sinner is a hard way, but the path of those who live right is like the light of dawn, shining brighter and brighter (Hebrews 13:15, Proverbs 4:18). Would you admit your need of a Savior by believing that Christ died and rose again for your sins? A seeking sinner and a seeking Savior will always meet. When you truly trust the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him your Savior, God will open your eyes to a brand-new way of living, by giving you new desires to please Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). He will also give you a new eternal home in Heaven, where no dirt (sin) can enter! (Revelation 21:27).
